What is a cable box (set-top box) and how do I get one?

Updated September 14, 2011 by Gregory Shaffer

A cable box (also known as a digital converter or digital cable box) allows you to view digital channels. Find how to get one.

A Comcast cable box gives you access to our on-screen guide, On Demand programs and Pay-Per-View events. You’ll need a box for every TV that accesses these services. TVs equipped with CableCARDs will not be able to receive these services.

You can get a Comcast cable box by purchasing an XFINITY TV package online, by chatting with us, or by calling 1-800-XFINITY. (You can’t order additional boxes online.)
