Introduction

Please read below for installation instructions and troubleshooting steps for the Water Detector for your XFINITY Home Control product.

Water Detector Installation Instructions

  1. Attach the Water Detector less than one-half inch from the floor.
  2. Secure the Water Detector and its cable to the wall using the three wire clamps.
    • One clamp should be fastened immediately above the Water Detector.
    • The Water Detector should be installed only in a vertical position and facing downward.
    • The remaining two clamps can be used as required (Figures 2 and 3).
    • Note: To provide better protection against rodents, it is recommended that the Water Detector cable be placed inside a metal/plastic pipe.
  3. Attach the transmitter to the wall. The transmitter should be placed approximately three to four feet off of the floor to prevent the transmitter itself from coming into contact with water in the event of flooding.
  4. Remove the case-closure screw (Figure 4), then remove the unit's cover (Figure 5).
  5. Flex out the circuit board retainer (Figure 6) and detach the circuit board from the base.
  6. Hold the base against the mounting surface and mark the two drilling points through the mounting holes.
  7. Drill the holes and fix the base to the wall using the two screws with countersunk heads supplied in the package.
    • Caution: Screws with other type or size of head may short circuit the bottom side of the printed circuit board.
  8. Insert the edge of the P.C. board with the RF module into the edge supports, and press the other edge against the flexible retainer until it snaps home with a click.
  9. Clamp the two wires of the Water Detector cable into the auxiliary input terminals, as shown in Figure 7 (the wires can be inserted in any order).

Troubleshooting the Water Detector

For troubleshooting the Water Detector, please view the common problems and possible solutions listed below.

Water is not being detected during testing.

  • Ensure that bottled water is not being used to submerge the lead. Some bottled waters do not contain enough minerals to conduct enough electricity for detection. Unfiltered tap water should be used.
  • Ensure the Water Detector's leads are securely connected to the terminals.

I need to reset my Water Detector.

  1. Remove the cover-securing screw with a Phillips screwdriver.
  2. Pry the base from the cover.
  3. Remove the battery from the base’s electrical board.
  4. Press the tamper switch (the spring-coiled button on the electrical board) and hold down as you re-insert the battery. Keep holding for two seconds after the green LED light turns on.
  5. Release the tamper switch, then quickly press and release again. Within three to five minutes, the LED light will start to blink.
  6. Insert the tab-like base catches on the cover into the base’s tab openings. Close like a clamshell.
  7. Tighten the screw and resume pairing by:
    • Going to xfinity.com/xhportal
    • Clicking on Settings
    • Clicking on the device you would like to pair
    • Clicking on Add Water Detector

The Water Detector sends a low battery indication.

To ensure continuous proper operation, replace the battery within two weeks of the first Low Battery indication.
