Support XFINITY Internet Configure Outlook 2003 for Comcast email

Introduction

To configure your Outlook 2003 client to work with Comcast email, or to reconfigure Microsoft Outlook 2003 client to use port 465 instead of port 25, follow the steps below.

Configuring your Outlook 2003 client to work with Comcast email also allows you to send and receive comcast.net email from a remote location, like a hotel or office.

  1. Open Outlook 2003, select Tools from the top menu, and then E-mail Accounts from the pull down list.

  2. In the E-mail category, select View or change existing e-mail accounts and click the Next button to continue.

  3. Select your comcast.net E-mail Account, and then click the Change button.

  4. On the Internet E-mail Settings page, click the More Settings button located in the bottom right corner of the window.

  5. Select the Outgoing Server tab, and put a check in the box labeled My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication. Also, select Use same settings as my incoming mail server.

  6. Click on the Advanced tab.
    • Incoming server (POP3) should be 995. Check the The server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) box.
    • Outgoing server (SMTP) should be 465. Check the The server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) box.

  7. Press the OK button to return to the previous menu. At this point, you can test your settings by clicking the Test Account Settings button. If everything is configured properly, each of the tests will have a green check mark next to it. If any of the tests fail, go back and make sure that each setting is configured correctly.

  8. After you close the Test Account Settings window, click Next and then Finish. You are now configured to use port 465 to send email with Outlook 2003.

As an additional step, third party email clients are often configured to delete messages from the server. This will prevent additional devices from receiving your Comcast email. To use your Comcast email account on multiple devices, you will need to ensure that email messages are not deleted. To configure your Microsoft Outlook 2003 client to not delete messages from the server:
  1. Select Tools from the top menu, then E-mail Accounts from the pull down list.
  2. In the E-mail category, select View or change existing e-mail accounts and click the Next button to continue.
  3. Select your comcast.net E-mail Account, and then click the Change button.
  4. On the Internet E-mail Settings page, click the More Settings button located in the bottom right corner of the window.
  5. Click on the Advanced tab.
  6. Check the box next to Leave a copy of messages on server.

  7. Click OK.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Click Finish.
Congratulations! You're done configuring your Outlook 2003 client to send and receive Comcast email.
