Support XFINITY Internet Setting up Eudora Email Client

Introduction

This article details how to set-up the Eudora email client with Comcast settings.

Initial Set Up

  1. Upon launching Eudora for the first time, you will be presented with a New Account Wizard tool. Select Create a brand new email account, and click Next.

  2. Type your desired account name in the Personality Name field, and click Next.

  3. Type your actual name in the Your Name field, and click Next.

  4. Type your Comcast email address in the Email Address field, and click Next.

  5. Type the User Name you wish to use to log into the account in the User Name field, and click Next.

  6. Type mail.comcast.net in the Incoming Server field, and click Next.

  7. Type smtp.comcast.net in the Outgoing Server field, and click Next.

  8. Click Finish.

Enable Email Port Change

  1. Close Eudora if it is open.
  2. Navigate to your Eudora main install directory. (C:\Program Files\Qualcomm\Eudora)
  3. Look in the Eudora directory for the directory labeled extrastuff.
  4. Find a file named esteric.epi, and drag (copy or move) it into the main Eudora directory.  There will now be additional options listed, including a Ports page.
  5. Launch Eudora.
  6. Go to Tools > Options.
  7. Once in the Options menu, scroll to the bottom of the list to find the Ports option.
  8. In the Ports field, type in the correct ports for SMTP (587 or 465 SSL) and POP (995).

  9. Click OK.
  10. Select Checking Mail on the left menu sidebar, and choose Required, Alternate Port in the Secure Sockets when Receiving drop-down menu.

  11. Select Sending Mail on the left-menu sidebar, and choose Required, Alternate Port in the Secure Sockets when Sending drop-down menu.

  12. Click OK.
  13. Next, you will be prompted to enter your Comcast password. (You may also select Remember password for this personality at this time.)

  14. You may see a warning about an unknown SSL Certificate.  Click Yes to continue.

  15. It may be necessary to click Check Mail again to initiate receiving email.
