Introduction

Frequently asked questions about copyright alerts.

How was my account identified?

The copyright owner identified only an Internet Protocol (IP) address at the time of the suspected infringement. The copyright owner who sent Comcast the message does not have your contact information, and Comcast does not provide it to them. Comcast used the logs we maintain to identify to what account the IP address was assigned at the time indicated on the notice from the content owner. With this information, Comcast matched the IP address we received with your account for the purpose of sending you this Copyright Alert.
